Consumers should make sure their home insurance policy is suited to their individual needs before putting pen to paper on any deal, an expert has said.
According to Graeme Trudgill, head of corporate affairs at the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA), people must only take out contents and buildings insurance that is tailored to them.
Mr Trudgill explained that around 75 per cent of all households are running the risk of not having an annual insurance policy and insisted “the most important thing is to get appropriate cover”.
He went on to note there are “three principle areas” that Britons need to consider when looking into home insurance possibilities and maintained it is crucial to “buy basic cover and then a standard cover” for the likes of storms and fire.
This comes after Jasmine Birtles, founder of Money Magpie, stated recently that consumers need to take their time when deciding on insurance products to ensure they find the right level of cover for them, while avoiding having to pay for extras that may not be required.
